Some other feeding tips and tricks
Dogs are clever when they use their puppy dog eyes to make you believe that they need more food.
You can feed your dog a diet kibble if they seem to be always hungry, but you know that their weight is ideal (or even overweight). These kibbles are meant to fill them up a little more.
- Addition of low-calorie vegetables such as kale or pumpkin, carrots, green beans, or low-calorie vegetables such as green beans, can help to reduce the hunger level.
Dog treats should not exceed 10% of your dog’s diet. All treats that are used to train your dog should be kept separate from the daily kibble. They should be given in small amounts.
Ensure your dog has fresh, clean water at all times.
No matter what method you choose to feed your dog, it is important that they do not exercise immediately after or before eating. This will reduce the risk of them bloating.
If your dog is recovering from an infection or surgery, pregnant or nursing, or the weather has been extremely hot or freezing you may need to adjust their feeding schedule.
You might consider an elevated dog dish if you have a senior dog or one with mobility problems, arthritis or joint disorders. This will reduce the strain on your dog’s neck.
- Some research suggests that a raised bowl could increase the risk of bloat for large and giant breeds. If you have one of these dogs, you may want to avoid this type of bowl.
Consider whether your dog is simply seeking more attention and love. It should not be difficult to do, and it shouldn’t cost you anything.
You should feel more confident about your knowledge of how to feed a dog.
