Sore Throat
A sore throat is a common symptom of swollen nodes in the lymphatic system. This can be caused by a viral infection or bacteria. A sore throat can be a symptom for strep, sinus, or gum infections. It may also occur with tonsillitis, influenza, sinus infection, and the common flu. A sore neck can cause pain when swallowing. Patients may also find it hard to eat and drink. A sore throat can cause a hoarse or strained voice, which makes it difficult to speak normally. Because a sore neck can be a sign of a medical condition, it’s important to see a doctor after two days if this is still the only symptom. If the sore neck occurs with a cold lasting more than five consecutive days, a doctor’s appointment is necessary. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics or medications to help reduce the severity of the sore throat. As part of home treatment, patients may find it relaxing to gargle salt water and drink hot fluids.
