12. Burning Tongue
The burning tongue syndrome or burning mouth occurs when there are no visible signs of irritation. The pain may occur on the lips, tongue or throughout the mouth. There are no visible signs that irritation is present.
This symptom is usually accompanied by another symptom, such as bad breath or a bad mouth taste. This symptom usually occurs after 60 years of age, but can occur at any time. This disorder can be caused by a number of conditions, including menopause. Low estrogen levels during menopause could be a contributing factor.
