Nail Trimmers
Both dogs and their owners can find nail trimming stressful. Using the correct tools and knowing how to use the proper technique can make the process easier.
- Claw or plier style trimmers have a spring-loaded mechanism and cut nails in a scissor like fashion.
- Guillotine Trimmers are equipped with a replaceable cutting blade which cuts the nail by pressing the spring-loaded handle.
- The scissor-like trimmers are not spring-loaded and best for dogs with delicate, small nails.
- Styptic Powder such as Kwik Stop can be used to stop the bleeding when you accidentally cut your nail too short.
- Filing Tools are used to grind the edges of nails down gradually. On small nails, metal files or basic emery board can be used. Power rotary tool can be used on all types of nails. Use low speed with smaller nails, and medium-high for thicker ones.
