A person with syphilis can also experience pain in their muscles. Muscle pain can be a symptom of a variety of ailments. However, a person who has syphilis is more likely to experience it for several reasons. The body produces white blood cells when it is fighting an infection. They also keep muscle tissue cool and healthy.
The muscles may begin to hurt when the white blood cell is called to the site of syphilis. When the body fights off disease, it also produces cytokines. Overproduction of cytokines can lead to inflammation in joints and muscles. Inflamed muscles and joints can be painful and achy. Over-the-counter medications are often ineffective.
