5. Genital Warts
Condylomata Lata, or genital Warts, is a skin condition where moist patches of skin appear on and around the genitals. These patches can also affect the anus. This is a secondary symptom of syphilis. These warts can vary in size and number depending on the severity and progression of the virus that is causing them. When warts first appear, they can be very itchy. They are also extremely painful when scratched.
Laser removal is a treatment that is available but is quite costly. After warts are removed by a physician, a patient is not allowed to wear anything underneath their underwear for a period of up to one week. It can be difficult to accomplish. It is important to detect syphilis at the earliest stage, when there are only small sores or swelling lymph nodes. This will prevent the infection from progressing to the stage where genital warts appear.
