6. Children who cannot sleep
Children, in particular, can find it difficult to sleep when they experience pain or swelling.
Baby’s can’t communicate what they are feeling, but fitful sleep and irregular sleeping patterns may indicate that their ears need attention. Look for swelling around the ears, or if the child is fiddling with its ear with their fingers or shaking their head.
Another warning sign is if the child doesn’t seem to react to sounds in the same way as he or she normally does.
