6. Fatigue and joint pain
The feeling of tiredness many women feel during or after menopause may be due to insomnia, but can also be an indication of other health problems. It is normal to become more tired as you age, but you should discuss it with your doctor if it seems to be debilitating or has occurred suddenly.
Menopause can cause joint pain due to a lower estrogen level in the body. Estrogen is partially responsible for reducing the inflammation in joints. The aches and pains are usually felt in the lower to mid-body, such as the hips and the knees.
If fatigue and joint pain occur together, this could be a sign that fibromyalgia is present. This condition does not have any connection to menopause. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but genetics, recent illness, or infection are thought to be factors.
