5. Disturbed Sleep
Sleep disturbances are often caused by other symptoms, like night sweats, but they can also take on other forms.
In the years following menopause, just under half of women experience insomnia. They also report an increase in snoring or sleep apnoea. These factors can cause women to have a restless night’s sleep. This, in turn, can lead to mood swings or depression during the day.
There are treatment options for menopause symptoms. Recent studies have raised safety concerns about some of these treatments, including HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), such as an increased risk of dementia and cardiovascular disease later in life. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on how it is administered and who the patient is.
