7. Watch your diet!
You may have noticed that some foods seem to intensify menstrual cramps, while others have a soothing affect. It is important to monitor your diet, and only eat foods that help with cramps while avoiding others that exacerbate them. When you have your period, you may find yourself craving foods that are excessively sugary, fatty, or salty. Avoid salty foods, such as potato chips and doughnuts. Salty foods dehydrate the body, causing bloating.
Increase your intake of antiinflammatory foods like cherries, bell peppers, squash tomatoes, blueberries and others. Menstrual cramps can be treated with fish rich in omega-3 fat acids. Increase your calcium intake by eating foods like almonds, beans, dark green leafy vegetables, and dark leafy lettuce. Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, caffeine and salty or fatty food.
