14. Take more Vitamin D
Menstrual cramps that are severe can be painful. Increased levels of prostaglandins cause pain by causing contraction of uterine wall walls to shed uterine lining. The problem is the excessive release prostaglandins. The solution would be to inhibit the excessive release. Vitamin is an inhibitor of excessive prostaglandin production. It also helps maintain optimal blood levels of calcium, phosphorus and other minerals.
Multiple studies conducted on women who suffer from acute menstrual pains found that vitamin D could actually reduce the pain. The doctor can perform a simple blood test to determine your vitamin D level and how much you need. You can then eat foods fortified in vitamin D such as beef liver, egg yolks, and salmon, or eat food like tuna and mackerel.
