13. Get enough sleep
According to studies, the quality of sleep a woman gets during her menstruation is directly related to the severity of symptoms. Women who experience menstrual pain may not sleep enough, which can make the cramps worse. The experts have explained that when women menstruate, their body’s progesterone levels drop dramatically. This makes it difficult for them to sleep because the hormone has a mild sedative affect that induces sleep.
But establishing good sleep hygiene can help ease the pain of menstruation. Healthy sleep habits may include going to sleep at the same time every day. The body will adapt to this new “time to sleep”. If soothing music, warm showers, or tea help, then by all means use them. A good night’s sleep is not only beneficial for painful menstruation, but also to your overall health.
