11. Acupuncture
The Chinese have developed a treatment that can help women with severe menstrual pain. This is acupuncture and Acupressure. Experts believe the treatments could date back as far as 3000BC, but some experts think it may have been used even earlier. The treatments are aimed at the acupoints of the body.
Acupressure uses firm pressure to massage the acupoints. While acupuncture utilizes a thin needle, acupressure uses firm pressure to stimulate the acupoints. Acupoints, or trigger points on the skin of an individual, are known to have a desired effect when they are stimulated. Both therapies are effective for treating a wide range of medical conditions, including severe menstrual pain.
A skilled acupuncturist will know the pressure points and place a thin needle in these areas to produce the desired effect. It’s not unpleasant and the early practitioners used animal bones in place of needles. Menstrual cramps can be relieved by acupressure and acupuncture on the abdomen, back and feet.
