17. Roland Wants to Stay
Grady didn’t buy it. Grady wasn’t buying it.
Grady said, “We will help you on your way.” It was clear what he meant.
Still smiling, Roland shrugged. It depends on my car’s condition, sheriff. My things will not be left behind. I think I will stay for a little while. “I’m now interested.”
18. Marianne Is Welcoming
Grady was irritated when Marianne said “Merriview has a very warm welcome.” Couldn’t she sense what he was feeling? What did you mean by that?
She was astonished by the way Roland looked at her. “Well, that’s great to hear.”
Roland Redding was now a part of the city. All of this happened very quickly. Grady radioed a tow. His car was taken down the road to Hank’s. Marianne told Roland to stay at Heidi’s Inn, near the town center.
