29. The Town Plans a Holiday
Grady was almost able to laugh when he saw the little, red-faced man in a suit, surrounded by Merriviews worst. Grady was deeply uneasy, but the scene had its owncomic twist.
Grady took the podium at exactly 7 P.M. As he answered questions and spoke, he forgot about Redding. The town meeting was well attended and the 4 th seemed to be going off without a problem.
Merriview, ready for Independence Day, had a parade in the town square, fireworks on the high school grounds, carnival games, and goodies for the children.
30. Roland Wants to Say Something
Grady was about to end the meeting when Roland stood.
“Excuse me, Sheriff? “I’d like you to hear something.”
Grady sighed. Grady was disturbed by what he saw when he looked at Roland. He was giggling like the cat that ate the canary. Roland’s words were sure to be saccharine and conniving.
