Why Is Weight Loss Important for Health?
Weight loss has many health benefits that can lead to not only an improved appearance, but also a better quality of life. Here are 10 of the most common weight loss health benefits.
Blood pressure is reduced
Recent research published in the journal Hypertension indicates that weight loss can lower blood pressure. In the study, overweight and obese individuals were randomly assigned into two groups. One group followed a moderate weight loss diet and exercised. The other group did not lose weight.
The study showed that after six months the systolic pressure of the group who lost weight had decreased significantly. The control group did not experience any changes.
These results suggest that losing weight can be a good strategy to reduce Hypertension.
Reduces heart disease risk
Weight loss can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. In a study published in Circulation, it was found that overweight and obese people are more susceptible to heart disease than those with a healthy body weight. The study showed that the risk of heart disease increases by 23% for every 10 points increase in the body mass index (BMI).
This study found that obese people have a higher risk of dying from any cause, and this risk is increased if they also have diabetes or high blood pressure. People with obesity also have higher cholesterol levels, and are more at risk for heart failure.
