Complementary Medicine
Some research on alternative therapies for HSV includes:
- Algae extract: In a laboratory setting, algae extract has stopped HSV-2 growth. This could be an important substance for alternative treatments. Nevertheless, further research is needed.
- Propolis A sticky substance that bees make from tree sap, propolis has shown promise as a cure for herpes. In studies, people treated with propels had faster healing and a greater likelihood of having herpes-free lesions on the 10 thday of treatment.
- Acupuncture In an experiment, people with herpes-related pain were randomly assigned to receive either standard pharmacological medications or acupuncture. The results of the study showed that acupuncture may be an effective treatment for herpes-related pain. This treatment is mildly effective, but has been rarely linked to the transmission of HSV. It’s great that we can use it as a preventative measure.
Some people use the following methods to cure herpes.
- Zinc
- Lysine
- Bee Products
- Echinacea
- Eleuthero
Alternative therapy called Cure Herpes has been marketed to HSV patients as a detoxification therapy. There is no evidence to suggest that this product can treat or cure herpes. Some people use complementary and alternative (CAM) methods to cure their herpes. Studies have shown promising results with algae, propolis and acupuncture. There is therefore no evidence that supports other CAM health claims. Herpes is not curable, but there are many ways to manage an outbreak, including OTC remedies, home treatments, CAM therapies and prescription medication.
