This exotic food is well worth the money if you enjoy pate. Foie gras is made with goose or duck fattened liver. Foie gras, a gastronomic speciality, is prepared and cooked carefully. The term “foie gras” refers to a product made with at least 20% of goose. If the product contains animal parts or livers, it must also be labelled “pate,” or “terrine.”
Exotic food fact: Foie gras is a product of ancient Egypt, when Egyptians forced-fed birds to make them fat. Some laws today prohibit this practice. Foie Gras is still available in some countries, but the price per pound is between $90 and $110.
Fugu
Fugu is considered the most dangerous food in the world. The name of the dish is derived by the fish that it’s made from, “Fugu”, or “Globefish”. If not prepared properly, it can be deadly to anyone who consumes it. Fugu preparation is closely regulated and monitored by Japanese laws. It can only be prepared by chefs with three years or more of intensive training. If you want to be adventurous and live on the edge of life, try this exotic dish!
Exotic food fact: The intestines of Fugu, the ovaries and liver contain tetrodotoxin which is 1,200-times more deadly than cyanide. The toxin in this fish is so potent that it can kill up to 30 people. A lethal dose of the poison is smaller than a pinhead.
