4. Nipple Retraction
The nipple retracts inward towards the breast. This is also called nipple Inversion or inverted nipple. Normal, the breast nipple would point outward. However, when it points inwards, this could be a sign that breast cancer is present. Inversion of the nipple does not always indicate cancer. It can be caused either by inflammation of the tissue located behind the nipple.
In breast cancer, however, the nipple may retract due to a tumor that attacks the duct located behind the nipple. This causes the nipple to pull inward. You should have a breast examination as soon as you notice your nipple pulling inward. Breast cancer can be diagnosed by a thorough physical exam, which includes diagnostic imaging.
