6. Flighty Ideas
A person may not be able to stick to a single topic. The manic state is a characteristic of bipolar disorder. This is similar to Freud’s free association therapy where individuals would come into a therapist’s office and vocalize their stream-of-consciousness. In this manic state however, these individuals are unable control their behavior. It is possible that they are not aware of the aimless topics of conversation.
It can look like the person who is rambling has a lot of ideas, and they are rushing to get them out. They may even speak over the person because of their speech. The other person, on the other hand, might not be enjoying the conversation or feel ignored.
