Gothenburg (Sweden)
The second largest city in Sweden is now a major player on the global sustainability map.
Gothenburg, once a major shipping and trading town, is now considered one of Europe’s greenest destinations, with an average of 274 square metres (2,950 square foot) of green area per resident, while 95% its hotels have been certified eco-friendly.
The pandemic in the world forced the cancellation of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary celebrations. The celebrations will take place in 2023. It’s an exciting time to visit.
The city’s anniversary festival, which includes concerts and art exhibitions, is held from June 2-5 in Frihamnen, the district of the port.
The celebrations will continue through the summer, until the launch of the 26-mile Goteborgsvarvet Marathon on September 3. This is a new race that follows the popular half-marathon held in the city on May 13 – Tamara Hardingham Gill
