9. Tomatoes
It’s the brightly colored foods again. The tomato is beneficial for endometrial cancer, lung and stomach cancer. Tomatoes are a great source of antioxidants and can be used to flush out cancer-causing toxins. They are also the richest dietary source for lycopene. The red color of tomatoes is due to a carotenoid. The fact that tomatoes contain carotenoids is fascinating because, when they were brought to Europe from South America centuries ago by the first inhabitants of countries like Spain and Italy, people were afraid to eat them.
In a study published in Nutrition & Cancer, it was discovered that lycopene can stop the growth of endometrial tumor cells. Endometriosis, and the cancers that are associated with it, cause almost 8,000 deaths in the US each year. Many fear that this disease is more common than previously thought, as many women suffer in silence and are misdiagnosed.
