6. Berries
Berries are no exception. According to research, berries are particularly effective in fighting oral, colon, skin, and esophageal cancers. It seems that a half cup of berries or 150g a day could help keep chemo at bay.
All berries are rich in phytonutrients. However, black raspberries have the highest concentration of phytochemicals known as anthocyanins. These anthocyanins, according to research from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, slow the growth of new cancer cells at cancer sites inside the body. The anthocyanins also prevent new blood vessels forming. It is important because cancerous cells need oxygen to live. Berries are generally packed with antioxidants, which keep the cells young. This is done by fighting free radicals and toxins which damage cell membranes.
