5. The Later Follicular Phase
The cervix begins to produce more fluid when a woman approaches ovulation. Fluid becomes clearer, more slippery, and stretchier. The fluid is sometimes compared to raw egg white. The fluid and discharge are usually at their peak two days before the ovulation. The highest estrogen levels occur at this point in the cycle. The fluid will be very stretchy during this period and you can pull it several inches between your fingertips.
Some women have fluidand a discharge that contains a little more water. Women produce different amounts of fluid. About 95 percent of the fluid is water. The remainder is composed of organic compounds, electrolytes and soluble protein. You will probably need less lubricant during this phase if you tend to use it and are sexually active.
